Re: Drillgrounds
We will
begin taking drillground requests for the Spring starting 1/1/23. These can be for the burn building, roof
prop, car fires, or non-fire evolutions in the old burn building
1 Drillground request may be submitted on 1/1/23
Provided we do not meet our limit, a department may submit a 2nd request on 2/1/23
If we are still not full on 3/1/23, departments may send in a 3rd request
6 I have re-attached the Academy protocol for
classroom and drillgrounds. This will be
strictly adhered to. Departments and Associations
are urged to share this will all members.
We do not want to turn anyone away for non-compliance but we will not hesitate
to do so if we deem a risk to public health or safety is present. As per the protocol. Each Department taking
part in a Drillground activity must assign and identify an Infection Control Safety
Officer to monitor their members and ensure compliance with Academy protocol.

ROOF PROP TRAINING SESSIONS
If your Department has a roof prop session scheduled, PLEASE ensure some saw use and safety familiarization is conducted before the drill. If your members have never operated the saw or for a long time, it is wise to do this beforehand. The prop is not the place to teach someone how to hold the saw or start it. Please stress that a running saw should NEVER be lifted any more than 6" above the roof deck. We are seeing many safety issues with this. We have provided a power saw safety guideline to use for discussion before your drill so your experience here is productive.

Be advised
- If you are scheduled for a roof prop drill this year.
- You can only send 10 people to a vent prop drill. Please do not bring more
- This is to ensure everyone attending gets to do cuts
- The prop is not designed to accommodate too many at one time
- We allow you to add other evolutions in case we get to them or can do them simultaneously
- With a minimum amount of people, we should be able to cover both
Thank for your cooperation. Be reminded also -- 6 sheets of 4' x 8' sheets of plywood must be provided by the department.
