The Communicable Disease Team is responsible for investigating reportable diseases and outbreaks as outlined in New Jersey Administrative Code 8:57. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting patient interviews to gather potential exposure information and provide disease specific education on prevention measures.
  • Speak with medical providers to obtain relevant clinical information and discuss public health recommendations for treatment
  • Perform contact tracing for infectious diseases and provides exposure notifications when necessary
  • Consult with long-term care facilities, acute care hospitals, childcare settings, and more to address potential communicable disease exposures in their populations.
  • Monitor reportable disease trends at the global, national, and local levels.

 

Immediately reportable diseases should be reported upon suspicion to the LHD where the patient resides. To report an outbreak or communicable disease to MCHD during business hours, please call 732-431-7456. For after hours reports, please call the on call radio room number 732-577-8700.
