County Commissioners announce
expansion of tick identification services
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners has announced the expansion of the County’s tick identification service
with two satellite drop boxes in Middletown and Freehold Township, along with a
new online submission form to make the service more accessible and convenient
for residents.
“Even as the temperature cools down, ticks remain
active,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “Despite the cooler
temperatures, residents should remain prepared for ticks throughout the fall
and winter along with any day temperatures rise above 40°F.”
“When someone is bitten by a tick, prompt removal of
the tick can reduce the risk of tick-borne disease,” said Commissioner Susan M.
Kiley, liaison to the Office of Mosquito Control. “The County’s tick
identification service provides Monmouth County residents with a written report
that can help them and their physician make informed decisions. The report includes
the tick’s species and life stage, estimates how long it was attached and
feeding, and explains how these factors may influence the risk of tick-borne
disease.”
Ticks may be brought to the Office of Mosquito
Control at 1901 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, Monday through Friday from 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or at the new sites:
•
Middletown Health Department, 1 Kings Highway,
Middletown. Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
•
Freehold Area Health Department, 1 Municipal Plaza,
Freehold Township. Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
