Middletown’s Fairview Cemetery is featured in video series
Latest installment features historic resting place

SHREWSBURY – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has released the next installment in its online history project that features the Fairview Cemetery in Middletown in a four-minute video available for viewing on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/history.

Joining the county’s “These Historic Places” video series, Fairview Cemetery has an interesting perspective on county history as it is the final resting place for people who helped guide the quality of life that exists in Monmouth County today. Of note is the Borden family gravesite. The Borden’s left a philanthropic legacy in Rumson and much of the eastern portion of the county.

Located just off of State Hwy. 35 in the Oak Hill section of Middletown, the cemetery was founded in the early part of the 19th century. Several Civil War soldiers and generals are buried in family gravesites.  There is also a Veteran’s Memorial dedicated to residents who served the United States as members of the Armed Forces.

“By watching the video you will see and hear about several interesting family gravesites and learn about local history in a different way” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the county Historical Commission. “Each of our historic videos gives residents a chance to preview some great local history spots and our rich local history.”

Previous history videos have included several churches, historic homes, unique museums and points of interest throughout the county. All videos are available for viewing on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com.

“Residents who visit the county Web site can learn a great deal about county projects,” Burry said. “This history project is just one of the many resources available at www.visitmonmouth.com.”
