County Commissioners proclaimed May as
Celiac Disease Awareness Month
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners proclaimed May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month to help raise
awareness about celiac disease, encourage early diagnosis and support residents
living with the autoimmune condition.
“Celiac Disease Awareness Month is an important
opportunity to educate our community about a condition that impacts many
individuals and families,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone.
“Increasing awareness can help people recognize symptoms earlier, seek medical
guidance and better understand the challenges faced by those living with celiac
disease every day.”
The proclamation was presented to Gregory Fresca, on
behalf of Celiacs Disease Foundation by Commissioner Ross F. Licitra, on behalf
of the Board.
“Celiac disease affects millions of Americans and
occurs when the ingestion of gluten damages the small intestine,” said
Commissioner Licitra. “Awareness efforts aim to educate the public about
symptoms, treatment options and the importance of proper diagnosis and dietary
management.”
