County Commissioners announce
award from Preservation New Jersey
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners is excited to announce that the County has received a 2025
Preservation Project Award for the rehabilitation of the Historic Racing Stable
in Thompson Park, Lincroft.
“My fellow Commissioners and I are
thrilled that the rehabilitation of the Historic Racing Stables was chosen for
this year’s award from Preservation New Jersey,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “Preservation New
Jersey annually recognizes organizations and individuals who have contributed
in significant ways to the preservation of New Jersey’s rich history, and we
are proud of the Park System for receiving this well-deserved honor!”
“The Historic Racing Stable, circa 1880, is one of the
largest and finest stables built during New Jersey’s Golden Age of thoroughbred
racing,” said Commissioner Ross F. Licitra, liaison to the Monmouth County Park
System. “The building recently underwent a preservation project in which the
entire two-story, timber-framed structure was restored and rehabilitated. The
barn is now open to the public on a seasonal basis, so we encourage everyone to
see this incredible piece of Monmouth County history.”
The Preservation New Jersey award was presented to
representatives of the Monmouth County Park System on Nov. 6 in Trenton.
According to their website, Preservation New Jersey was
founded in 1978, and is a statewide member-supported non-profit historic
preservation organization. The organization promotes the economic vitality,
sustainability, and heritage of New Jersey’s diverse communities through
advocacy and education.
