County Commissioners announce bridge replacement
project over Swimming River Reservoir
Phalanx Rd. to remain open during
construction
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has
announced a project to replace Bridge A-38 on County Route 54 (Phalanx Road)
over Swimming River Reservoir in the Townships of Colts Neck and Middletown.
“For the replacement of Bridge A-38, construction is
expected to begin on or about October 6 and continue for two years but Phalanx
Road will remain open throughout construction and a temporary traffic pattern
will utilize one lane of traffic,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone,
liaison to the Division of Engineering. "We remind drivers in the area to
follow all posted signs during construction. Temporary changes to traffic
patterns may also occur, so please stay alert while driving in the area. We
appreciate the public’s patience as we work on this important infrastructure
project."
Additionally, for 90 calendar days in late summer/early fall
of 2026, there will be a road closure with a posted detour. The detour route
will use County Route 520 (Newman Springs Road), County Route 50 (Swimming
River Road), County Route 537 (Colts Neck Road) and Laird Road.
“Please note
that Monmouth County is committed to the safety of all those who use our
roadways; therefore, we ask residents to follow all posted detours,” said
Commissioner Director Arnone.
In total, Monmouth County maintains approximately 1,000 lane
miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
