Monmouth
County Historical Commission
seeks applicants for 2026 history grants
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has announced that the
Monmouth County Historical Commission (MCHC) has released its 2026 grant
applications for the History Regrant Program and the Historic Preservation
Grant Program.
“Monmouth County is
proud of its history and my fellow Commissioners and I are excited to continue
our support for the History Regrant Program and the Historic Preservation Grant
Program,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “With the Country’s semiquincentennial
in 2026 and a focus on our local history, I encourage those interested in
applying for a grant to visit the County’s website to learn more about the
application process.”
Two types of grants are available
through the 2026 History Regrant Program: General Operating Support (GOS) for
historical organizations’ overall expenses, or Special Project (SP) funding for
local history projects and programs that are open and accessible to the public.
The Historic Preservation Grant, funded by the County, provides matching funds
with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $10,000 to restore historic buildings
owned by organizations or municipalities. Both applications are available
online.
“We thank our residents and
municipalities for their ongoing commitment to restoring and preserving
historic structures throughout Monmouth County,” said Commissioner Erik
Anderson, liaison to the MCHC “By supporting preservation projects through the
History Regrant and Historic Preservation Grant programs, the County honors the
stories and places that shape our community.”
The 2026 History
Regrant Program is made possible with funds provided by the New Jersey
Historical Commission, a division of the New Jersey Department of State. The
goal of the program is to strengthen local history organizations, inspire
projects to preserve and contribute to the local historic record and increase
public awareness and participation in local history programming.
The deadline to
declare intent to apply for the Monmouth County History Regrant Program is Oct.
3 and the completed application is due Oct. 31. The Historic Preservation Grant
Program application is also due Oct. 31.
The Monmouth County
Historical Commission was established by what was previously known as the Board
of Chosen Freeholders in August 1988 for the preservation and conservation of
Monmouth County history. The Commission’s principal programs provide grants,
maintain historic buildings and support history programming to preserve
Monmouth County’s rich and diverse historic legacy.
