Monmouth County will conduct mosquito
control operation in Middletown on Sept. 19
MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners has announced that the Monmouth County Mosquito Control Division
will conduct an adult mosquito control operation in Middletown Township on Sept. 19 between
4 and 6:30 a.m., weather permitting, due to evidence of West Nile virus in the area.
The treatment area includes residential
streets east of Harmony Road, south of Cherry Farm Road, west of Tindall Road
and north of Oakdale Drive, Daniel Drive and Tindall Park.
“Monmouth County remains committed to reducing the
threat of mosquito-borne diseases through active surveillance, precise
treatments, and vigilant monitoring,” stated Commissioner Director Thomas A.
Arnone. “County inspectors are also available to assess properties for standing
water, a common breeding ground for mosquitoes. When larvae are detected,
they’ll either treat the area or eliminate the water source. Residents can
schedule an inspection by calling 732-542-3630.”
The Mosquito Control Division
will apply Duet using Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayers mounted in the bed of a
pick-up truck. A map of the areas to be treated and a fact sheet will be
posted on the Division’s website visitmonmouth.com/mosquito, under
mosquito schedule and maps.
“West Nile virus peaks annually in August and
September,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the
Department of Health and Human Services. “People spending time outside should
take precautions such as using repellents or wearing long-sleeve shirts and long
pants to avoid mosquito bites. Residents can also reduce mosquitoes by dumping
any containers holding water around their property.”
