Monmouth County will conduct mosquito
control operation in Wall Township on Sept. 19
WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of
County Commissioners has announced that the Monmouth County Mosquito Control
Division will conduct an adult mosquito control operation in Wall Township on Sept. 19 between
4 and 6:30 a.m., weather permitting, due to evidence of West Nile virus in the area.
The treatment area includes residential
streets south of Allaire Road, west of Route 35, north of Atlantic Avenue and
east of Route 34.
“Monmouth County recognizes the importance of proactive
surveillance, precision treatments and constant monitoring to reduce the risk
of mosquito-borne illnesses for residents,” said Commissioner Director Thomas
A. Arnone. “In addition, the County provides inspectors who will visit
properties to identify standing water sources that support mosquito larvae. If
larvae are found, the inspectors will treat the water or remove the source. To
schedule an inspection, please call the Mosquito Control Division at 732-542-3630.”
The Mosquito Control Division
will apply Duet using Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayers mounted in the bed of a
pick-up truck. A map of the areas to be treated and a fact sheet will be
posted on the Division’s website visitmonmouth.com/mosquito under
mosquito schedule and maps.
“Most West Nile virus activity is report in August and
September,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the
Department of Health and Human Services. “When people are outdoors, they should
take precautions such as using repellents or wearing long-sleeve shirts and long
pants to avoid mosquito bites. Residents can also reduce mosquitoes by dumping
any containers holding water around their property.”
