Monmouth
County Commissioner Director issues statement regarding proposed legislation to
make 9/11 a federal holiday
FREEHOLD,
NJ – On behalf of the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners,
Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone issued the following statement regarding
legislation proposed by Rep. Mike Lawler to designate September 11 as a federal
holiday:
“For three years, I have advocated for the federal and
state governments to make September 11th an official holiday, a Day of
Remembrance. I want to thank Rep. Lawler for taking an important step to
achieve this at the federal level, and I encourage our NJ federal
representatives to support this bill.
I've said it many times, but I will say it again: in
order to give the victims, the first responders and their loved ones the
respect they deserve, and to ensure that future generations learn about the
tragic events that happened that day, we must make September 11th an official
holiday.
With each year that goes by, it becomes more important to
never forget.
Again, I thank Rep. Lawler for the legislation he has
proposed, and while we have declared a Day of Remembrance in Monmouth County,
please know that I will not rest until 9/11 becomes a holiday both state and
countrywide.”
