Board of Commissioners highlight Marlboro Shared Services agreements
Mayor applauds County
Commissioners for significant cost savings
FREEHOLD, NJ – As part of an ongoing series spotlighting successful
shared services partnerships, the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners
is proud to highlight a Tourism Marketing Shared Service with the Township of
Marlboro.
Since 2005, Marlboro has partnered with Monmouth County through shared
service agreements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce financial
burdens. In 2008, the
Township further advanced its cost-saving efforts by joining a Commodity Resale
Agreement, securing lower prices through bulk purchasing. This agreement
provides the municipality with greater budget predictability and removes the
need for time-consuming bidding and procurement processes.
“The Commodity Resale Agreement
proves important cost savings for our municipalities,” said Commissioner
Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Office of Shared Services. “Bulk
purchasing of commodities through the County at reduced rates has resulted in
significant cost savings for our municipalities, like the Township of
Marlboro.”
"As a strong advocate for cutting costs and reducing
government waste, I have consistently championed the use of shared services.
Monmouth County has been a key partner in this initiative, collaborating on
efforts such as animal control, active shooter training, and health department
services,” said Jonathan Hornik, Mayor of Marlboro. “A standout example of our
success is the Commodity Resale Agreement, which enables the county to purchase
essential items—like gasoline, diesel fuel, snow removal chemicals, and public
works materials—in bulk at a lower cost. This approach not only saves taxpayer
dollars but also represents sound financial stewardship.”
Other
shared service agreements that Marlboro utilizes are the Municipal Assistance,
Tax Board MOD IV, iTax Map and Health Services Agreements.
“Shared services agreements are essential to ensuring efficient,
cost-effective solutions for our communities. In Monmouth County, collaboration
between municipalities and the County allows us to pool resources, streamline
services, and respond quickly when challenges arise—ultimately delivering
better outcomes for our residents,” said Commissioner Director Arnone.
“By partnering with other government entities through
shared service agreements, we’re ensuring more efficient use of resources and a
stronger fiscal future. I want to thank Commissioner Director Arnone,
Commissioner Licitra and the Board of Commissioners for working with our
administration to achieve these savings,” said Mayor Hornik.
