County Commissioners announce bridge replacement project over Swimming River
Swimming River Rd. to remain open during construction

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has announced a project to replace Bridge S-14 on County Route 50 (Swimming River Road) in the Townships of Colts Neck and Middletown and the Borough of Tinton Falls.

“For the replacement of Bridge S-14, construction is expected to begin on or about June 23 and continue for two years but Swimming River Road will remain open throughout construction and two 11-foot-wide travel ways in each direction will be maintained,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Division of Engineering. "We remind drivers in the area to follow all posted signs during construction. Temporary changes to traffic patterns may also occur so please stay alert while driving in the area. We appreciate the public’s patience as we work on this important infrastructure project."

The existing bridge will be replaced with a modern concrete and steel structure designed to meet today’s safety and accessibility standards. The new bridge will feature wider travel lanes, dedicated safety shoulders, new sidewalks, upgraded guide rail, and decorative stone veneer architectural enhancements.

“This project highlights Monmouth County’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure to ensure the safety of our motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” said Commissioner Director Arnone.

The contractor for the $10.17 million project is Marbro Inc. of Montclair. Funding is being provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation - County Aid.

In total, Monmouth County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
