Monmouth County Commissioner Director
issues statement regarding the deadly violence against lawmakers in Minnesota
FREEHOLD,
NJ – On behalf of the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners,
Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone issued the following statement regarding
the deadly violence against lawmakers in Minnesota:
“We want to express our deepest sympathies to the
family and friends of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband,
Mark. We also pray for the recovery and healing of Minnesota State Senator John
Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
We strongly condemn any act of violence against
elected officials. These individuals—regardless of political affiliation—commit
themselves to public service, often at great personal sacrifice. They work
tirelessly to represent their communities and take on the tough
responsibilities that come with representing the public.
There is no place in our society for threats,
intimidation, or violence against those who step forward to serve. Disagreement
is part of democracy—but it must be expressed respectfully, not through hatred
or harm.
We stand in solidarity with all public servants who
continue to do their work despite increasing challenges and risks. As leaders,
and as a community, we must do everything in our power to ensure their safety
and protect the integrity of our democratic institutions.”
