County Commissioners proclaim May 2025
as Mental Health Awareness Month
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners put a spotlight on mental health when they proclaimed May 2025 as
Mental Health Awareness Month during the Commissioners Workshop Meeting held on
May 22.
“While Mental Health Awareness Month has ended, it is
important to remember that our mental health is just as important as our
physical health,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “While most
people don’t hesitate to seek treatment for their physical ailments, they may
hesitate to seek treatment for mental or emotional struggles. There are so many
compassionate mental healthcare professionals who are ready to provide help and
support to anyone in need and the County will do everything we can to aid in
ending the stigma surrounding mental health.”
“Recognizing the signs,
fostering open dialogue and showing compassion are vital steps in supporting
those affected by mental health challenges,” said Commissioner Deputy Director
Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. “I
would also like to acknowledge the incredible mental health professionals who
provide support and care to those in need. Monmouth ACTS is a valuable support
system for residents facing mental health struggles. By calling 732-683-8959,
individuals can be connected with a compassionate, trained social worker. In
the event of a mental health emergency, residents should call the 988 Crisis
Hotline.”
