County Commissioners proclaim May
as Apraxia Awareness Month
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth
County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 2025 as Apraxia Awareness
Month during the Commissioner Workshop Meeting on May 6.
“May
is Apraxia Awareness Month, and my fellow Commissioners and I stand with
families and children affected by Childhood Apraxia of Speech,” said
Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “This rare neurological disorder makes
it difficult for children to speak, even though they know what they want to
say. Raising awareness is vital to promoting early diagnosis and connecting
families with the support and resources they need.”
“We
commend the dedicated speech-language pathologists, educators, and caregivers
who work every day to help children with apraxia find their voice,” said
Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of
Health and Human Services. “Early intervention and consistent therapy make a
real difference, and Apraxia Awareness Month is an important opportunity to
shine a light on the importance of advocacy, education, and understanding.”
