County activates pedestrian warning
beacons near Riverview Medical Center
RED BANK, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners has activated overhead pedestrian warning beacons to improve
safety at the intersection of East Front Street (County Route 10) and Riverview
Plaza near Riverview Medical Center.
“I
am proud to have spearheaded the installation of these warning beacons along
with the entire Board of County Commissioners and our partners at the hospital
in order to enhance the safety for the patients, visitors and hospital staff,”
said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of
Public Works and Engineering. “The new warning beacons are now placed over the
road to better alert approaching motorists to pedestrians in the crosswalk.”
“Our primary concern when it comes to our roads is safety,”
said Director Arnone. “Over time, Riverview Medical Center officials have shared
their concerns regarding safety for their employees and pedestrians. Approximately
1,200 pedestrian crossings occur at this location daily and the goal of
installing the warning beacons is to provide safety to pedestrians and drivers.”
In the spring, East Front Street will be resurfaced and new
road signs and striping will be installed.
In total, the County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles
of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
