County Commissioners gather with residents to “Light
up the Shore” to honor heroes of 9/11
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners,
in conjunction with the 53 municipalities in Monmouth County, hosted “Light up
the Shore” in honor of the lives lost and the fearless display of heroism by
rescue teams and citizens who responded to the tragedy on September 11, 2001.
“It was truly awe inspiring to see the turnout across
the County to honor the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks and to recognize the
bravery and courage of our first responders who ran towards danger at risk of
their own personal safety,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “I
want to personally thank Belmar resident Frank Mezel for suggesting this
wonderful idea and I want to thank everyone who came out and participated in lighting
up the shore.”
“The
‘Light up the Shore’ event helped signify that even in the darkness of 9/11
that people’s genuine good shined a light on all of us,” said Commissioner
Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley. “These lights are a symbol that we will never forget
and will continue to support those affected by the terrorist attacks of 9/11.”
