The Monmouth County Fair Housing Office
The Monmouth County Fair Housing Office receives close to 100 housing complaints annually. Many of the complaints were referred to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for investigation purposes. The complaints consisted of the following: housing discrimination, differential treatment of a person on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sex, affectional or sexual orientation, handicap, nationality and family status.
The Fair Housing Office provides general information and assistance on many other housing problems. Over sixty cases were referred to other agencies that are funded and staffed to handle a specific housing problem. The Fair Housing Office also performed twenty-six sessions of training and technical assistance to individuals, groups, agencies and organizations.
