Acceptable Household Hazardous Waste Items

Monmouth County Health Department’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is located on Shafto Road, Route 547, Tinton Falls, New Jersey. This is the most sophisticated facility of its kind in the State. The facility is open Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 11:15AM and 12:45PM to 3:15PM by scheduled appointments only. On Saturday, it is open from 7:30AM to 1:45PM. To schedule an appointment or to learn more about the facility, please call 732-922-2234. The facility is currently open to Monmouth County residents only and there is no charge for this service. We cannot accommodate businesses at this time.

The facility brings with it a more efficient system for the management and disposal of household hazardous materials. By using the appointment system a more controlled and safe waste-handling environment can be achieved. There are no lines! This full time facility provides residents with greater opportunities to dispose of the household hazardous materials when needs arise.

The facility accepts unused household chemicals such as cleaners, pesticides, garden chemicals, pool chemicals, all batteries, paints and paint thinner, motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, anti-freeze and much more. The Household Hazardous Waste staff, which is supervised by a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, removes all materials from participant’s vehicles inside a state of the art collection building. Materials are collected, sorted, and classified by hazard categories and stored in specially designed buildings on site. Stored materials are then shipped to licensed disposal or recycling facilities every 2 to 3 months.
