Monmouth County Fire Academy graduates 61

Monmouth County Fire Academy's Class #81FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Fire Academy recently graduated 61 volunteers from the Firefighter I program. The ceremony was held May 20.

Members of Class Nos. 80 and 81 attended weekend classes at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Howell and completed more than 130 hours of course work. They received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses and other equipment.

“As graduates of this program you will serve your friends, neighbors and community as you embark on a career in public service,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “By virtue of becoming a volunteer firefighter each of you will have an occasion to go above and beyond the call of duty. Be assured it is not something we forget or take lightly.”

“The graduates of Class 80 and Class 81 are ready to join the ranks of other active local firefighters,” Burry continued. “Firefighters, along with other emergency responders, are available at all times. They are confronted with life and death situations and their ability to react properly and safely can be attributed to the training they have just completed.”

“These firefighter graduates are to be commended for their dedication and willingness to serve,” said William Itinger, chief training officer at the county facility. “They will provide a great service to their communities as they carry out their important duties. They are joining thousands of other local firefighters who receive training at the county Fire Academy each year.”

Each firefighter was awarded a certificate of course completion by Freeholders Burry and Itinger.
