Monmouth County encourages you
to prepare, plan and stay informed
Tropical Strom Hermine will bring rain and likely impact coastal towns make your plans now
FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Hermine and her unfortunate impact on the Labor Day forecast.
Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso, liaison to OEM, asks that residents and visitors stay informed, plan and prepare should Hermine continue to follow her predicted path.
“County staff is working to make sure that we are prepared and can respond effectively; we ask that residents and visitors do the same,” DiMaso said. “Everyone needs to pay attention to the weather this weekend. Just as County staff are preparing for the storm, people should prepare a kit and make a plan.”
Steps that residents should take are:
- Prepare - Get a Kit
o Prepare a kit with children
o Help older Americans prepare
o Prepare for pets
- Plan - Create an emergency plan. You should contact the emergency management office in your local municipality if you have specific questions about storm preparations in your town. Contact information for all Monmouth County municipalities can be found on the Information Center web pages of the County website.
- Stay informed - Listen to local radio stations. Connect to the County’s preparation efforts through the VisitMonmouth.com and on Facebook and Twitter.
“The storm is predicted to deliver heavy rain and then stall off of our shoreline and contribute to abnormally high tide conditions in our coastal communities,” added DiMaso.
“Please prepare yourself, your family and your home for the storm,” Sheriff Shaun Golden said. “Think about and plan for what you will do if your power goes out for an extended period of time. Also, remember to keep the 9-1-1 lines clear and refer all non-emergencies calls to your local non-emergency numbers. In most towns this is town hall or the police department.”
