Freeholders support Hunger Action Month

Participate in Hunger Action Family Day at FoodBank

 

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders is supporting Hunger Action Month for the month of September and kicked off their efforts by participating in the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties “Hunger Action Family Day” on Sept. 1. Volunteer Rachel Marconi and Freeholder John P. Curley participate in Hunger Action Family Day at the Monmouth County FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties to kick off Hunger Action Month on Sept. 1 in Neptune, NJ.

“The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to support this national effort to raise public awareness to the needs of the hungry and to volunteer our time at the FoodBank,” Freeholder John P. Curley said. “Along with many volunteers, we helped assemble 400 healthy ‘snack packs’ that will be going to students in after school programs throughout the month of September.”

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties serves more than 132,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean counties, including 40,000 children.

“It is so important for families to eat well and stay active this school year and providing healthy snack packs to 400 children is a great way to start,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso. “The health of our children, both mentally and physically, is important for their academic success and overall well-being.” FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties Executive Director Carlos Rodriguez, Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso and Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone participate in Hunger Action Family Day at the FoodBank on Sept. 1 in Neptune, NJ.

Hunger Action Month is a national campaign by Feeding America, the country’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The organization feeds America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks, including the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Monmouth County employees also conducts a month-long countywide food drive each spring that has already put provided more than 30 tons of food for the FoodBank.

“Residents of Monmouth County have been extremely generous in their support of food drives,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “But fighting hunger is a constant battle. I encourage everyone to continue their support of the FoodBank by visiting their website at www.foodbankmoc.org to find out how they can help the hungry this month and throughout the year.”
