Update on Chapel Hill Road

Repair work on Middletown Road began June 4

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Repair work began today on Chapel Hill Road, between Comanche Drive and Whipporwill Valley Road, to temporarily repair the culvert.

The work is expected to take two to three weeks to complete.

Monmouth County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering closed the Chapel Hill Road culvert in mid-April due to damage to the retaining wall.

“Due to the significant damage to the culvert, complete reconstruction is necessary,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The culvert will be temporarily repaired to resume traffic in the area and then will close for the permanent replacement in the fall.”

Chapel Hill Road will be open to local traffic only up to the point of the closure. All other motorists should follow the posted detours. Traffic is being detoured along Sleepy Hollow Road and Kings Highway East.

Motorists should expect travel delays throughout the entire project.

In total, the County maintains of approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
