Update on Havens Bridge Road

Extent of damage to bridge in Howell calls for prolonged closure

HOWELL, NJ –Havens Bridge Road, between Adelphia-Farmingdale Road (CR 524) and Casino Drive, will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time while the bridge is reconstructed.

Monmouth County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering closed the bridge in early April due to deteriorated and failed pilings on the Havens Bridge Road bridge. The County has met with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to obtain an emergency permit to replace the structure.

“Due to the extent of deterioration and significant damage to the bridge, complete reconstruction is necessary,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The County expects a response regarding the DEP permit on or before May 22.”

Following the receipt of the emergency permit from DEP, the County plans to award an emergency contract for reconstruction.

The schedule for reopening the bridge will be dependent on the work authorized by the DEP.

Havens Bridge Road will be open to local traffic only up to the point of the closure. All other motorists should follow the posted detours. All traffic should expect travel delays throughout the entire project.

In total, the County maintains of approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
