Health and Wellness Fair in Howell on April 18

Free screenings and classes offered

 

HOWELL, NJ – The Monmouth County Health Department and Howell Township will present a health and wellness fair on Saturday, April 18 at the Police Athlete League building at 115 Kent Rd.

The fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will offer a wide range of free screenings and classes. There will also be door prizes.

“It is important for our residents to take good care of their health,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “I encourage residents to take advantage of this fair being offered by the County at no cost.”

Free screenings available at the fair will include:
  • Eye screening
  • Hearing screening
  • Cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Blood pressure
  • Osteoporosis
  • Lead screening

The classes offered will cover topics including healthy homes, Lyme’s disease prevention and poisoning prevention.


“The County has teamed up with the governing body of Howell and many local business partners to present this special health fair,” said Christopher Merkel, Monmouth County’s Public Health Coordinator. “We are really excited to be able to offer this event that will truly benefit residents and help them take care of themselves and their families.”

Local business partners offering services include:
  • Barnabas Health is offering blood sugar screening and safe kids program information.
  • Jersey Shore Medical Center will be offering information on their COACH asthma program.
  • CentraState Fitness and Wellness Center will provide fitness information.
  • A Shop Rite dietician will provide healthy eating information.
  • Walgreens will provide information on low cost prescription programs.
  • Community Resources is providing information on their “Be healthy, be active” program.
“When you head over to the health fair, please consider helping the County fight hunger by bringing a nonperishable food donation,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “The County is sponsoring a food drive for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties for the entire month of April, so there will be food collection bins at the event.”
