FREEHOLD, NJ – Winter is finally over, but the potholes and cracks on the roads remain. To keep its roads in good condition, Monmouth County has begun its annual road milling and paving projects.

“The County resurfaces about 20 miles of roadway each year,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering.  “These projects are part of the County’s efforts to responsibly maintain its roadway infrastructure and to keep traffic moving.”

For each section of road in this year’s program, the work will be done in three parts: the road will be milled, paved and then the lines will be striped. The work will be done either at night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., or during the day, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The detailed schedule for each site is posted on www.visitmonmouth.com.

“Motorists should follow posted detours and expect delays while this paving work is done,” said Arnone. “The County understands the inconvenience that this will have on the motoring public, but it is essential to repair the damage incurred by these roads.”

In total, the County maintains of approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
