How healthy is your home?

Health Department offering healthy home class

FREEHOLD, NJ – Springtime is around the corner and so are the spring showers that come with it. Is your home in a flood zone or prone to flooding during storms? If so, you may wonder what you can do to keep your home and family healthy from the effects of flooding.

The Monmouth County Health Department, the Central New Jersey Lead and Healthy Homes Coalition and the Monmouth County Environmental Council are offering a free healthy home class for Monmouth County residents on Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at 4000 Kozloski Rd.

“It is important for our residents to understand the effects that your home can have on your health,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “I encourage residents to take advantage of these classes being offered by the County at no cost.”

“The goal of the program is to educate Monmouth County residents on the seven principles of a healthy home in order to create and maintain safe and healthy homes in all our communities,” said Christopher Merkel, Monmouth County’s Public Health Coordinator.

The seven principles of a healthy home that will be explained are: keep it dry, keep it clean, keep it ventilated, keep it pest-free, keep it safe, keep it contaminant-free and keep it maintained.

“Each attendee will receive a healthy home tool kit to help them to start on their way to a healthier lifestyle,” said Curley.

The classes are free to attend for Monmouth County residents. To ensure that you receive a tool kit, you must register for the class by Tuesday, March 3. To register, call 732-431-7460 ext. 7473 or email ann.waters@co.monmouth.nj.us.
