Freeholders recognize Hispanic Heritage Month
Present proclamation to
Latino American Association of Monmouth County
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has proclaimed Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as “Hispanic Heritage Month” in Monmouth County.
Nearly ten percent of Monmouth County’s residents identify themselves as being of Hispanic Origin.
“Through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work and service, the Hispanic Community has had a profound and positive influence on our community,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry. “By celebrating multiculturalism, we are more able to work together to achieve our goals.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, the Freeholders presented a proclamation declaring “Hispanic Heritage Month” in Monmouth County to Violeta Peters, president of the Latino American Association of Monmouth County, Inc.
National Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated since 1968, to recognize the independence achieved first by Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua and followed closely by the countries of Mexico and Chile.
National Hispanic Heritage Month also marks the celebration of Columbus Day on October 12.
