Information sessions for
County academies announced

8th graders and parents need to attend if they plan to apply

 

FREEHOLD, NJ – The five career academies of the Monmouth County Vocational School District will be holding information sessions for eighth grade-students who are thinking about applying to one of the academies as a member of the Class of 2019.

 

“Monmouth County’s career academies have established themselves as state and national leaders of secondary education,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “We look forward to welcoming the next class. It all begins with a parent and student attending an information session over the next few months.”

 

Attendance at an information session is required for any student who plans to apply to a county career academy. The student must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the academy of interest during one of the scheduled sessions.

 

All Saturday sessions begin at 10 a.m. and all weeknight sessions begin at 6:30 p.m.

 

The Academy of Allied Health & Science, 2325 Heck Ave. in Neptune, is designed for students whose interests are in the health science and medical areas. The dates of the Allied Health & Science High School sessions are Saturday, Sept. 27; Thursday, Oct. 16; Saturday, Oct. 18, and Tuesday, Nov. 4.

 

Biotechnology High School, 5000 Kozloski Rd. in Freehold Twp., focuses students on a college preparatory program related to biological research technologies and is suited for students interested in careers in pharmaceutical and biological research. The dates of the Biotechnology High School information sessions are Saturday, Sept. 27; Thursday, Oct. 2; Monday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 25.

 

Communications High School, 1740 New Bedford Rd. in Wall, is designed for students interested in various communication technologies including computer applications, graphic design and publishing and network technologies. The dates of the Communications High School sessions are Saturday, Oct. 4; Thursday, Oct. 9; Wednesday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

 

High Technology High School, 665 Newman Springs Rd. in Lincroft, is a pre-engineering college preparatory program with an emphasis on technology, mathematics and science. This career academy opened in 1991 in partnership with Brookdale Community College. The dates of the High Tech High School sessions are Saturday, Sept. 27; Thursday, Oct. 2; Thursday, Oct. 23; and Saturday, Nov. 1.

Marine Academy of Science & Technology (M.A.S.T.), Building 305 at Sandy Hook/Gateway National Recreation Area provides an educational program for students interested in marine and environmental science. The dates of the M.A.S.T. high school sessions are Thursday, Oct. 2; Saturday, Oct. 11; Thursday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

 

“Our career academies offer exceptional learning facilities combine with outstanding teachers and staff,” said Freeholder Serena DiMaso, who oversees the County’s Commerce and Education. “I encourage any student interested in attending one of our great schools to attend information sessions at one or all five schools.”

 

After attending an information session, the student will be able to obtain an application. Detailed information about the individual academy curriculum, schedule, transportation and complete application process will be provided at each information session. Applications for the Class of 2019 are due on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014.
