September at the shore is better than ever

Food, festivals and even a horse parade 

 

FREEHOLD, NJ – Whoever said Labor Day was the last day of summer, must not have looked at Monmouth County’s September Calendar of Events. 

 

“September is a great month in Monmouth County,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone. “The weather is still warm and there is an incredible variety events all month long; so get out and enjoy all the County has to offer!”

 

The farm markets, outdoor entertainment, festivals and warm weather continue throughout September when you can enjoy summer fun without the summer crowds. 

 

September 5, 6 and 7 is Asbury Park’s Oysterfest. Quickly becoming one of the most popular events of the September, the festival turns historic Cookman Avenue into one long pedestrian mall. Enjoy food, shopping and live music on Sept. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m., Sept. 6 from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 9 from noon to 6 p.m.

 

Other events this weekend are the Ocean Grove Giant Fall Flea Market on Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Ocean Pathway, the Red Bank Street Fair on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Belmar Pro Surfing Competition, which runs from Sept. 11 through 14.

 

If you prefer crafts, Historic Allaire Village will hold its Annual Crafters’ Market on Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sept. 27, you will also find crafters at the Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade at West End Park and at Middletown Day at Croydon Hall.

 

The Feast of San Gennaro at the Jersey Shore will take place on Sept. 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Main Street in Belmar will be filled with Italian food and spirits, games, activities, live music and special guests.

 

In September, find two car shows in the County. The Ocean Grove British Car Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 20 along Main Avenue and the third annual Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show at PNC Bank Arts Center takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 27.

 

Also on Sept. 20, the Open Space Pace fall festival will bring a unique, exciting day of fun to downtown Freehold and Freehold Raceway. The affair starts with a parade of horses down Main Street in Freehold at 10 a.m. and continues to Freehold Raceway. There will be races, demonstrations, food, exhibits, family activities and music beginning with the parade at 10 a.m. and ending with fireworks at dusk. The event will be capped an outdoor concert and a fireworks display. 

 

Sept. 28 is Red Bank’s famous Oyster Festival at the White Street Parking Lot. This food and music festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. with a rain date of Oct. 5. 

 

The last weekend in September holds just as much fun as the first weekend: Sept. 27, from noon to 4 p.m. is Micro-Brew on the Pier at Belmar Marina; the 1830s Fall Harvest Festival will take place from10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic Allaire Village; Sept. 28 is the Harvest Home Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel.
