County adds evening backyard composting clinic

Workshop to be held April 24 at 7 p.m. in Manasquan

 

MANASQUAN, NJ – Monmouth County has added an evening backyard composting clinic to be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 at the Manasquan Recreation Annex at 67 Atlantic Ave.
 
You will know the how-to’s of reducing your yard and household waste and improving your soil after an informative 45-minute presentation. In addition to the April 24 workshop, two other dates are are offered in April and May:
  • Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. – Middletown, Deep Cut Gardens, 352 Red Hill Rd.
  • Saturday, May 17 at 9:30 a.m. – Marlboro Recreation Complex, Wyncrest Road

The workshops are free, but advance registration is required. To reserve one of the limited seats, call 732-683-8686, ext. 6721 or download the registration form from the recycling section of the County Reclamation Center’s webpage at www.visitmonmouth.com.

“Many residents want to do their part in preserving the environment, yet they struggle with how to reduce household waste,” said Freeholder Serena DiMaso liaison to the County’s Reclamation Center. “The Backyard Composting program is helpful for those residents who are seeking guidance and provides not only direction, but also the opportunity to purchase a bin for composting at home.”

Participants may purchase an Earth Machine backyard composting bin at the session for $35. Payment must be by a check made payable to “Monmouth County Grant Fund.”

If you already compost and would like to purchase an Earth Machine backyard compost bin, you may do so for $35 at one of the five towns that have partnered with the County to expand composting opportunities for residents:

You should call first for availability and hours for pickup. Payment must be by a $35 check made payable to the “Monmouth County Grant Fund.”
