Oceanic Bridge maintenance work scheduled

Regular maintenance on bascule span today and tomorrow

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Oceanic Bridge (S-31) over the Navesink River will undergo routine maintenance repairs, weather permitting, to its center bascule span on Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

To perform these repairs, the Monmouth County Division of Bridges will intermittently open the bridge’s bascule section for up to ten minutes at a time.

Motorists should expect travel delays while this work is conducted. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will not be able to cross the bridge for up to ten minutes at a time.

“This work must be done to prepare the Ocean Bridge for the return to its regular operating schedule on April 1,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We appreciate the patience of the travelling public while we work to perform this regular maintenance. Monmouth County prides itself on safety, especially with its movable bridges.”

Motor vehicle traffic on Bingham Avenue between Rumson and Middletown (CR-8) can either travel west through Fair Haven and Red Bank to Middletown or travel east through Sea Bright and Highlands to Middletown.

“The work is being done after the morning commute and will end before the evening commute,” said John W. Tobia, director of the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. “This schedule provides minimal disruption to the majority of travelers.”
