February events at the County Connection

Free seminars and programs offered throughout the month

NEPTUNE, NJ – The Monmouth County Connection will host several informative programs for residents during the month of February, covering a variety of topics including Black History Month, brain games and senior services.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to noon, the Monmouth County Office on Aging presents “Brain Games: Keeping the Mind Sharp.” In this interactive presentation participants will learn the best ways to keep the brain sharp and in the best working order. Participate in a discussion about the brain as the “master computer” and learn about diet, physical exercise, and the amount of rest needed to keep the brain healthy. Games and exercises will be taught that stimulate different areas of the brain.

In celebration of Black History Month expert archivist Gary Saretsky will present Richard Wright’s photo-documentary, 12 Million Black Voices on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 5 to 6 p.m. First published in 1941, photographs that were compiled by the Farm Security Administration, along with prose composed by various authors, will tell the stories of African Americans during the Depression. The audience will step back in time through vivid photographs that will each tell a story of their own.

“Senior Options—How to Find the Best Services,” on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 1 to 2 p.m., is designed to inform the community about the services that are available to senior citizens in Monmouth County. If you or someone you know needs assistance with everyday tasks such as food shopping, laundry, and having the basic needs met, this program will help provide the information needed to receive those services. It will also cover arranging day care, medical care, transportation, community and government services, and much more.

The County Connection also offers the following recurring programs every month:

  • Meet with a Medicare Counselor every Wednesday by appointment.
  • Meet with a Monmouth County Surrogate representative on first and third Thursdays by appointment.
  • Meet with Monmouth County Veteran Services Office on second and fourth Thursdays by appointment.

All programs are free and open to all Monmouth County residents, but registration is required. To register, please call 732-303-2828.

The Monmouth County Connection is located in the strip mall at 3544 State Highway 66 in Neptune, adjacent to the Home Depot and across the street from Walmart. The office offers a variety of services including passports, passport photos, free notary public, veterans’ IDs, election/voter information, senior and veterans’ services, public access computers and more.
