Broken gas main closes county bridge
Detours are posted to move traffic around Church Street in Aberdeen
ABERDEEN, NJ – A gas leak in a New Jersey Natural Gas Co. main, discovered this morning under a county owned bridge over Mohingson Brook in Aberdeen, has forced the temporary closure of Church Street between Atlantic Avenue and Lloyd Road.
Crews from J.F. Kiely Construction of Long Branch are making repairs that entail replacement of 170 feet of a 6-inch gas main that runs under the pedestrian walkway portion of the tinder bridge. The pipe is old and had corroded in several places.
Detours are posted. The New Jersey Natural Gas Co. has reported it may take two days to complete the work.
