Clerk, freeholder named to leadership positions
NJ Association of Counties
welcomes Lillian G. Burry as county rep;
M. Claire French elected second vice president
FREEHOLD, NJ – The New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC) has elected Monmouth County Clerk M. Claire French as its second vice president for 2012 and Freeholder Lillian G. Burry will serve as the Monmouth County representative on the 2012 NJAC Board of Directors.
NJAC advocates for legislation, regulations, and policy directives that empower county g
overnments to operate more effectively and efficiently with the sole purpose of saving taxpayer dollars. NJAC’s membership includes elected officials from all of New Jersey’s 21 counties including freeholder, county clerks, sheriff’s and surrogates.
Members of the NJAC Board of Directors develop comprehensive position statements; testify at committee meetings, public hearings, and other venues, leading workshops and brainstorming sessions; manage the press and public relations, and, promote cutting edge county endeavors.
French is completing her third term as Monmouth County Clerk. She was the vice chairman of the State Local Finance Board from 1996 to 2002, and presided over the Monmouth County Improvement Authority from 1986 to 1996. She served as both mayor and a committee member in Wall Township from 1979 to 1986.
Burry is serving her third term as a Monmouth County freeholder. In 2008 and 2010 she served as freeholder director. Burry served three terms on the Colts Neck Township Committee, where she served as mayor, deputy mayor and committeewoman; she also served on the Matawan Borough Council. She serves on the Fort Monmouth Economic Redevelopment Authority (FMERA), where she has been an advocate for continuing services for veterans and securing 400 acres of open space and recreational facilities.
