County of Monmouth

Free tax preparation begins in February
at
Monmouth County libraries

MANALAPAN, NJ - It’s that dreaded time of the year – tax time! Help is on hand at the Monmouth County Library.

Once again, free income tax preparation will be provided by AARP volunteers at the Library Headquarters in Manalapan, the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury, and the Wall Township branch of the Monmouth County Library. This service is available for low-and middle-income taxpayers with simple returns.

“The Library has been offering volunteer tax preparation service to the residents of Monmouth County for the past two decades,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, Monmouth County Library liaison. “It’s just another example of the outstanding outreach provided by the Library System to all our residents.”

Preparations will be done in a first-come, first-serve basis. You do not have to be a senior citizen to have your tax return done by the AARP. Please bring last year's tax returns with you.

Please note: All taxpayers must be present when their tax return is prepared. If filing a joint return, both taxpayers must be present.  Please bring social security cards or comparable documentation for you (and spouse and all dependents if applicable.)

In order to avoid the typically longer waiting times in February and April, consider having your tax return prepared in March.

In addition, residents can find a selection of paper tax forms at most Monmouth County Library branches. Please call your branch before you visit to make sure the document you need is there.
